Tuatara Kalimba is a tined, plucked musical instrument, an idiophone or African thumb piano, with a diatonic component of notes and a rich scale and overtones.
The mbira is made of wood (soundboards) and biopolymer (rim), with alder overlays, and metal tines and bridge. This model has 21 tones, and for the soundboards to resonate beautifully, the box is divided into two parts and five resonators, two of which serve for the “wah-wah” effect (back soundboard).
Structurally, this lamellophone features: a hammer for tuning the tines, which attaches to the kalimba and is always at hand, and a pickup with a mono output for a standard “guitar” jack.
Tuning is in F with the possibility of adjustment. Alto or soprano tuning can be set. The sound is deep, warm, and soft, with the duration of the mbira’s notes decreasing toward the higher pitch.
The Tuatara kalimba has everything you need for creativity on board.
