Duda Sopilka – a chromatic wind instrument with tone tuning, sectional. Tenor range – 2 octaves with tonic F – 440 Hz. 10 finger holes (8 on top and 2 on the bottom). Each hole has its own note / semitone, and octaves are changed by breath force. The flute is sectional, mouthpieces can be swapped and pitch height can be tuned slightly lower. The low F of the lower octave is easy to produce, the instrument blows easily, and the transition between octaves is smooth. The fipple is beveled, which helps when playing sharps with the left hand not supporting the instrument. The whistle opening is positioned on top, which is good for concert performance. The tenor fipple has a special recess for the lips to comfortably maintain the standard 45° angle. The fingering section is made of metal. The tone holes are spaced further apart compared to a classic soprano flute (prima).
The Duda sopilka is not sensitive to temperature and can be used in any conditions. When disassembled it is easy to transport and takes up little space. It is necessary to occasionally oil the holes and moving parts, and to blow out the whistle before playing, especially in cold weather.
