Dinky Djembe – a wooden percussion drum with a bass control and key-tuned membrane. Smooth tension across the entire perimeter thanks to a hybrid system.
The playing surface is a full 30cm (12″) in diameter, height 58cm, rim lacing with 28 loops. Body wall thickness is 10mm. The inside of the instrument is rough, specially treated to preserve the original sound.
The djembe strap system uses a braided rope with reinforcement. Tension is applied with a standard 10mm wrench.
A bass control is installed — allowing you to change the sound. A great feature for percussionists who love to improvise, perform on stage, practice, or simply avoid disturbing those around them. The adjustment is smooth, and the control is externally accessible, tucked under the bottom of the body (see photo).
The membrane is made of natural goatskin. Synthetic skin can be installed upon request. When replacing, there is no need to unbraid the ropes — simply unscrew the bolts.
Included: carry bag + tuning wrench + belt mount + dampener (buzzing effect for the drumhead).

User guide

  • A new instrument needs a break-in period — tighten the ropes evenly around the perimeter, turning the tension bolts clockwise one turn at a time with a standard 10mm wrench, symmetrically.
  • There is no maximum tension limit, as the membrane is not static — use your ear and touch to judge, and avoid over-tightening to prevent damage.
  • If the djembe gets wet, dry it at room temperature without loosening the membrane.
  • The bass control in the lowest position turns off the bass; in all other positions it is active.
  • Keep away from fire, temperature extremes, and moisture.
  • Do not sit on the instrument or drop it, and do not insert any objects into the opening.
  • Try to use the carry bag whenever possible.
  • Play only with clean hands, without bracelets or rings.
