Zholomiya Double Flute – a traditional instrument from Western Ukraine, built as a double flute with its own set of holes, mouthpieces and pipes. Its dual mouthpiece design gives the instrument two separate air channels and two whistles working side by side.

The two pipes are fingered like a standard chromatic flute, but they’re not identical: the left pipe has 10 finger holes, while the right one has 4, and both are tuned to play in unison (with adjustable tuning). Together, the pipes cover a theoretical range of two octaves, though in practice musicians tend to play within about 1.5 octaves, since the highest notes on a double flute take more skill to control – though skilled players can push further with practice.

Being a sectional instrument, the Zholomiya breaks down easily for transport and cleaning. It holds up well to temperature changes thanks to its wear-resistant construction: polypropylene for the fingering sections and biopolymer for the mouthpiece and bell. If needed, the whole instrument can also be tuned half a step lower.
